Wonder Man Presents An Original Take On Marvel’s Simon Williams
In his original comic book origin story, Simon Williams becomes Wonder Man due to Baron Zemo, who provides Simon with superpowers in exchange for his loyalty to the Masters of Evil. Wonder Man sides with the Avengers, falls into a coma, lends his brain patterns to Vision, recovers, and then pursues an acting career. Marvel Entertainment’s first teaser forWonder Manreveals the MCU’s Simon Williams will have a very different origin.In the MCU, Simon Williams apparently starts as an actor who wishes to play a superhero and accidentally becomes one instead.
Wonder Man’s first teaser reveals that Trevor Slattery will try to help Simon Williams get the Wonder Man role, but both actors will have to deal with some unexpected obstacles first. Given that the teaser also features a brief shot of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Simon Williams wearing the comic character’s iconic red jacket and red sunglasses, Simon will likely succeed in his quest to become a Hollywood star. Although not shown in Marvel’s first official footage for the series, Demetrius Grosse will appear as Simon Williams' brother Eric, who might beWonder Man’s main antagonist the Grim Reaper.

Wonder Man’s premise seems to be a bold change to the hero’s origin. While major changes to Simon William’s story could prove controversial for fans of the comics,Wonder Mancould be as groundbreaking asWandaVision.
Just likeWandaVisionplayed with different genres and formats,Wonder Manmight play with the concept of superhero filmmaking within the MCU, blurring the line between straight fiction and satire. Simon Williams' solo series might be the first MCU project to explore the idea of superhero films and shows in-universe, similarly to how Amazon’sThe Boysemploys fictional movies to depict superheroes' public perception.
