DC’s AbsoluteWonder Womanis setting herself apart from her Prime counterpart in a way fans are going to love. It’s only been a month since DC Comics revealed itsplans for the Absolute Universeand a new sneak peek is going to get readers even more hyped for this ambitious new world.
Kelly Thompson, writer of the upcomingtitleAbsolute Wonder Woman, made a post on herSubstackdiscussing the Absolute Universe. Thompson was thrilled to announce she’d finally gotten approval to showcase some of Hayden Sherman’s art from Absolute Wonder Woman #1 that features the radically different Diana.
Thompson let the art speak for itself, and the most curious panel she revealed was one featuring Absolute Wonder Woman in action. Diana is dressed in her new armor and wielding her gigantic new sword. But for the first time, fans finally got a peek at Absolute Wonder Woman’s new mask.
Absolute Wonder Woman Has a Mask for Battle (And It’s Awesome)
While the Prime Universe heroes are dealing with the events ofAbsolute Power, DC Comics has already revealed the next earth-shattering development for the DCU. Spinning out of the upcomingDC All In Special #1, fans are going to see the birth of a new world built on ‘Darkseid energy’. This world, the Absolute Universe, will have the same heroes fans know and love, but nearly everything about them is different. Batman lacks the wealth and privilege he usually grows up with, Superman has no family, andAbsolute Wonder Woman’s connection to Themyscira and her sisters are completely missing.
The mask is a powerful look and one that’s really going to help define this new era for Wonder Woman.
The creators involved with the Absolute Universe have been upfront that everything in the redesigns of these classic heroes is intentional. For example, Absolute Batman’s chunky new chest logo actually doubles as the head of an ax. It’s unclear what purpose Absolute Wonder Woman’s new mask serves, but there’s almost certainly an important reason for it. But while the ‘why’ isn’t known just yet, it’s still an amazing look for this Diana and makes her look even more battle-hardened. The mask is a powerful look andone that’s really going to help define this new era for Wonder Woman.
DC’s New Wonder Woman Has Her Toughest Look Yet
The Prime Wonder Woman is obviously no stranger to fighting and has worn several helms, armors, and plating to battle over the years. But Absolute Wonder Woman comes from a harsher world and it makes sense that she would wear more protection when in combat situations. Hopefully, the upcoming stories will shine a light on the significance of the mask to this Diana variant. But for now, every reader can look at this mask and appreciate just how damn cool it makes AbsoluteWonder Womanlook.
