WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for ABSOLUTE POWER #3!After 83 years, DC has revealed thatWonder Womanhas essentially been sitting atop the ultimate anti-Kryptonian contingency plan, capable of taking downSupermanin a matter of seconds. This revelation unfolds duringAbsolute Power, DC’s ongoing crossover crisis event, which pits Amanda Waller against the metahuman population of the DC Universe.
InAbsolute Power#3 by Mark Waid and Dan Mora, DC’s remaining heroes take a stand on Wonder Woman’s home, Themyscira, after their previous stronghold,Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, is obliterated. The destruction of the FoS comes at the hands of Amanda Waller’s unleashed forces: the Martian Manhunter-inspired Amazo, Brainiac Queen, and a brainwashed Jon Kent.

Forced to flee the destruction of the Fortress of Solitude, the heroes escaped through a portal to Themyscira. Though the island’s magic offers protection, the relentless trio soon tracks them down and launches another attack. However,Themyscira reveals a hidden defense system powerful enough to incapacitate Superman’s son.
Wonder Woman’s Themyscira Is Able to Take a Kryptonian Out In Seconds
Nightwing Uses Themyscira’s Magic to Neutralize Superboy Jon Kent inAbsolute Power#3
Upon Jon’s arrival on Themyscira, the young Kryptonian launches an aerial assault on the island, wreaking havoc on its inhabitants and guests. Nightwing quickly intervenes, drawing Jon’s attention by challenging his friend-turned-foe to come down and fight face to face. However, it soon becomes clear that Dick has no intention of actually fighting Jon. The moment the Kryptonian lands, he is instantly neutralized by the island’s magic. Nightwing explains that the trap, set by himself, Mister Terrific, andArtemis of Bana-Mighdall, was triggered the second Jon set foot on Themyscira uninvited. The island’s magic reacted by channeling all its power to subdue him.
Themyscira’s success in subduing Jon Kent proves that the island’s magic is more than capable of taking down a Kryptonian. Given thatmagic is one of the greatest vulnerabilities of Kryptonians, it stands to reason that this defense could neutralize any member of the Super-Family, including Superman himself. Since Themyscira made its debut alongside Wonder Woman inAll Star Comics#8 (1941), this essentially means thatDiana has had an anti-Superman contingency plan from the very beginning—something that would no doubt make Batman envious, especially given its effectiveness.

Themyscira’s Magic Also Healed Jon Kent, Reverting Him Back to His Normal Form
Absolute Power#2 Saw Jon Kent Transformed Into a Brainwashed, Cyborg Monstrosity
What makes Themyscira’s attack on Jon particularly notable is thatit also purges his system of Brainiac Queen’s circuitry, which had effectively turned him into a brainwashed, cyborg monstrosity.InAbsolute Power#1, Jon was captured by Amanda Waller. ByAbsolute Power#2, it’s revealed that Waller’s true plan was to use Brainiac Queen’s advanced technology to warpJon into a lethal cyborg weaponentirely under her command. This dehumanizing transformation made Jon a key asset in Waller’s crusade, so his restoration on Themyscira not only represents a personal victory for Jon but also a major blow to Waller’s master plan.
Jon has had a particularly rough time inAbsolute Power, but issue #3 finally marks a turning point for him. The shock to his system from Themyscira’s magic enables him to break free of Waller and Brainiac Queen’s control, allowing him to regain control of both his mind and body. After briefly battling and subduing Brainiac Queen, Jon is reunited with his father. In a touching moment on the battlefield, Clark holds his son and reassures him, saying,“It’s okay, son. It’s over.”However, despite these comforting words,Jon’s journey to recovery is far from complete.
