Captain America: Brave New Worldteased the debut of a newMarvel Cinematic Universeteam, but anAvengers: Doomsdaytheory explains how the franchise might have already introduced the superhero squad. The Avengers are the MCU’s premiered superhero team. So far, there have been fourAvengers movies in the MCU. Those will soon become six, as the next two years are set to releaseAvengers: Doomsday, which marks the franchise debut of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, andAvengers: Secret Wars, which is the end of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.

While the Avengers are surely fundamental to the franchise, and the team’s entries are almost all among theMCU’s best movies, other superhero squads have added variety to the MCU. The Guardians of the Galaxy are a team of obscure characters who become a family. The Defenders were a group of street-level heroes in a gritty corner of the franchise. TheMCU’s upcoming movieswill introduce multiple teams to the franchise, likethe Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts, the X-Men, and more. However, a team with dark consequences was recently teased, and it might have debuted beforeAvengers: Doomsday.

Captain America: Brave New World Teased A New Illuminati Team

A Version Of The Illuminati Died In The MCU

The Illuminati played a key role inDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The team was revealed as the main superhero squad of Earth-838, with powerful members like a variant of Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, John Krasinski’s Reed Richards, Anson Mount’s Black Bolt, and more. However, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch fully showed the scope of her powers against the team, rampaging right through the Illuminati as she murdered them one by one in an attempt to get to America Chavez and take for herself the teenager’s powers of traveling the multiverse.

The MCU’s Next Hulk Story After Captain America: Brave New World Happens Way Sooner Than You Think According To One Major Thunderbolts* Theory

Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts* movie tells the franchise’s next Hulk story in an exciting MCU theory that connects with multiple projects.

Despite the Illuminati’s death, it seems like a version of the team is set to come back to the MCU.Captain America: Brave New World’s post-credits scenefeatured an ominous warning from Tim Blake Nelson’s Leader. He used his superior intelligence to see what was coming in the upcoming Avengers movies, telling Sam that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will not be prepared when the “others” come calling. Speaking withThe Wrap,Captain America: Brave New Worlddirector Julius Onah pretty much confirmed the others were a new Illuminati team, though he refused to say who would have been in that version. Check out the full exchange below:

“Interviewer: You mentioned that there’s no shortage of characters in this movie, but from what I hear, there were also, at a time, going to be more. There was going to be an Illuminati, at one point in this script. Who was in your Illuminati? Because we saw them in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ I need to know who was in yours.

Julius Onah: I’m not going to say! I’m not going to say (laughs). Let’s just say things are purposely left vague in that post-credit for a reason.”

The Marvels Is Responsible For The New Illuminati In Avengers: Doomsday Theory

A New Mysterious MCU Team Has Already Appeared

If a new Illuminati team is set to come to the MCU, then perhaps it hails from a universe that has already been established by the franchise. Much like howDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' Illuminati came from Earth-838,The Marvelsintroduced a new universe with surprising Marvel characters. In that film’s post-credits scene, Monica Rambeau wakes up to find herself in a new universe after the rift in reality closed, and Captain Marvel was not able to save her. There, she was met by Kelsey Grammer’s Beast and Lashana Lynch’s Binary.

With Maria Rambeau dead and there not being an X-Men team on Earth-616, this new universe promises many changes from the one fans have been following for years. AnAvengers: Doomsdaytheory claims that universe happens to be where the MCU’s new Illuminati team, teased byCaptain America: Brave New World, comes from.Beast mentions Charles Xavier in the post-credits scene, and since both variants of Professor X and Maria Rambeau were part of Earth-838’s Illuminati, it would make sense if they were also part of the MCU’s new version of the team, with X-Men characters and more added.

How The Illuminati Could Play A Role In The Avengers Movie

The Heroes Might Have To Get Bloody

There is a very simple way for how the Illuminati could figure intoAvengers: Doomsday’s events. The movie should feature incursions, which are collisions between two or more universes.A major incursion between Earth-616, the MCU’s main Earth, and the universes fromThe MarvelsandThe Fantastic Four: First Stepscould be the plot of the Avengers movie. This would allow the MCU to bring back Monica Rambeau into the fold, as well as X-Men characters, the Fantastic Four, and possibly Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom if he comes from the universe of the upcoming Fantastic Four film.

While Beast and Binary seemed like good guys inThe Marvels, having the Illuminati from their Earth fight for the survival of their universe would certainly bring out the heroes' dark side. That fits the Leader’s warning fromCaptain America: Brave New World’s post-credits scene.Avengers: Doomsdaycould then pit multiple superhero teams against one another, with each of themfighting to save their universe and destroy the others. That is quite dark and unlike what Marvel’s heroes have done before in the franchise. If the Illuminati hail fromThe Marvels, they will be a formidable threat inAvengers: Doomsday.
